A Day of Honor: Serving the Brave Soldiers Who First Responded on October 7

Yesterday I had the privilege of joining an unforgettable day with one of Israel’s most elite police units. Saber is a special tactical division of the Border Police. These men were among the very first to respond to the October 7 terror attacks. They ran into the chaos in Be’eri, Sderot, and Shlomi. They faced unimaginable evil and saved hundreds of lives in those first brutal hours. In the process, they eliminated 90 terrorists.

Since that day they have not had a real moment to rest. No retreat. No time to breathe. No day to simply laugh or play. So with the help of CFI Jerusalem and others who stand behind these heroes, we organized something simple but meaningful. A full day of rest and joy just for them.

We brought them to a country club in the north of Israel near Haifa. There was a pool, a sauna, fresh air, space to relax, and most importantly, a feeling of being seen and valued. We had an amazing breakfast, played soccer, shared stories, and finished the day with a fresh barbecue right there on the spot. You could feel the tension lift, even if just for a few hours.

During the gathering the unit gave out honors to soldiers who went above and beyond during the attacks. It was a moving moment. Not one filled with pride, but with brotherhood. These are not men who boast. They simply do what is needed because it is right.

We brought gifts for each of the 60 soldiers present including mangos to take home and most importantly copies of the Tanakh, the Old Testament. A reminder of the spiritual roots of courage, justice, and faith in the God of Israel.

I had deep conversations that day. About life, about God, and about what truly matters. My own son-in-law serves in this unit which makes all of this even more personal to me. I listened closely as soldier after soldier, from different backgrounds, shared their hearts.

This unit is mixed. Muslims, Christians, and Jews all serve together. They fight for the same land, the same values, and the same people. I asked the non-Jewish soldiers why they chose to serve in the Israeli police and risk their lives for a nation that some might say is not their own.

Their answer humbled me.

We fight because it is right. Hamas does not care if you are Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. They kill everyone. We are here to protect our children and our people. All of our people.

What a testimony. These men are living proof that Israel is not a nation divided. It is a nation where people of different faiths can stand united against evil and fight for what is right.

A Call to Pray

I want to ask you to pray for this unit. These are real names. Real men. Real souls on the frontlines of both physical and spiritual warfare.

Moris
Dolev
Levi
Avi
Ma’ayan
Oleg
Ibrahim
Samir
Yuda
Moshe

Pray for their protection. Pray for their strength. Pray that they would encounter the God who sees and loves each of them and return home safely to their families.

This was not just a day of rest. It was a day of restoration. A day of joy returning, even briefly, to those who walk daily into danger. It was a reminder that the battle in Israel is not just political or military. It is spiritual. But even in the darkness, God is moving.

And He is calling His people. All of His people. Back to Himself.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
